Federal Member for Perth Tim Hammond has emphasised the value getting flu vaccinations at your local pharmacy by receiving his annual shot at Pharmacy 777 in Maylands.
Mr Hammond said having his flu shot at a pharmacy in his electorate highlighted how much easier it was for anyone to get their flu vaccination with trained community pharmacists who can directly administer the shot in-store.
“This means anyone can come to a pharmacy which provides this service and organise their protection against this year’s flu strain,” Mr Hammond said.
Mr Hammond said the availability of flu shots through community pharmacies was important for communities in his electorate.
“The availability of vaccination by pharmacists greatly assists the community’s access to protection against the flu,” he said.
Pharmacy proprietor Greg Da Rui said it was not too late to get your flu shot this season and having pharmacists deliver the vaccination was a huge benefit and convenience for consumers.
“In the short time community pharmacists have been allowed to administer the vaccine there has been a high percentage of people being vaccinated for the first time,” he said.
“The convenience, affordability and ease of access to pharmacy flu vaccinations means more people are getting protected against this disease.”
Mr Hammond said consumers could be confident about getting their flu shots in a pharmacy as pharmacists giving the shot had to undergo special training.
“This ensures they have the knowledge and skills to both deliver the vaccine safely and effectively, as well as being able to identify and treat any possible side effects.”
