Labor remains concerned over the importation of asbestos-contaminated products into Australia following the significant recall of quad bikes containing asbestos by supplier Polaris since 2003.
Polaris notified the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission they were recalling up to 13,000 quad bikes from 12 models of their youth range after parts including brake pads, gaskets and washers were found to contain asbestos.
The ACCC understands the quad bikes have been supplied in Australia since 31 December 2003.
Shadow Minister for Consumer Affairs Tim Hammond represented many victims of asbestos caused disease as a lawyer before entering Parliament.
Mr Hammond said asbestos caused disease had cut many Australian lives short and the Labor party would continue to work toward eliminating this deadly material from consumer and building products.
